The German Brewers Association is one of the oldest professional organizations of brewers in Europe and one of the oldest associations in Germany in these days. In July 1871, the Franco-German-War was just over, as about 1.000 brewers gathered in Dresden. They came from all countries of Germany, from Austria-Hungary, the Russian Empire, from Sweden, Belgium and France as well as from Switzerland and the US - but they had a common goal: The establishment of a strong association that represents their interests. The Deutscher Brauer-Bund was founded.
The German Brewers Association (Deutscher Brauer-Bund - DBB), based in the heart of Berlin, represents the interests of the entire German brewing industry.
Among its members there are small, medium and large family businesses partly with a age-long history just as world-famous brewing groups or young craft brewers who just build a new brewery.
The German Brewers Association is composed of member associations and direct members. Member associations are regional associations and professional associations of the brewing industry. Direct members are well-known companies and groups in the brewing industry with at least 3.5 million hectoliters of beer output. The German Brewers Association as the national umbrella organization now has twelve members, five of which are regional associations or societies, one trade association and six direct members.

The DBB and its regional organizations see themselves as service providers: They advise breweries in all legal or technical issues, including raw materials, packaging, environmental law, food labeling, resource management, standardization and production. They support members regarding issues of economic and social policy, law and competition as well as press and public relations and crisis management.
They also advocate politically on the state and national level as well as in Brussels on the international level to obtain optimal business conditions for all breweries regardless of size and corporate form.
